The Green Heart of the Tropics - a true description of Innisfail although many would describe it as the undiscovered paradise of North Queensland.
To stay here is a must if you are wishing to relax and explore the natural beauty of North Queensland.
A town of about 8,000, Innisfail's main industry is sugar production and milling. Game and reef fishing adds considerably to its economy as well.
Along the Palmerston Highway is the Tchupala self-guided walking trail. It's part of the Palmerston National Park and well worth the visit. The length of the trail is only 570 metres (on the way to the falls) and here inside the rainforest you'll notice a dramatic change from the areas beside the road. The dense canopy of leaves filters just the right amount of sun through, creating a microclimatic environment within the forest.
Being within easy reach of the coastline's many beaches, and Cairns and the Atherton Tablelands just over an hour away by car, is the reason many visitors to the area make Innisfail their holiday base. |
