Sunset at Daintree

The Daintree, Daintree River, Pinnacle, Wonga, Mossman, Mossman Gorge, Mossman National Park and Daintree National Park make up this great part of Tropical North Queensland. Accommodation such as caravan sites, cabins and on site vans are available. Enjoy the beautiful beaches, a river cruise, the Great Barrier Reef and fishing.

Mossman, overlooked by twin peaked Mt. Demi, lies in the beautiful Mossman River valley, just twenty kilometres from Port Douglas.

Behind the town, the rainforest enveloped range is part of the Daintree Wilderness National Park. Fresh water swimming is afforded at the end of a short drive up the Mossman Gorge National Park, just 6 kms west of Mossman.

The drive, beneath an imposing forest canopy has well defined tracks throughout the lush tropical wet rainforest. There are many swimming holes in the Mossman River, offering safe and refreshing swimming opportunities with great picnic areas.

Along the road to the Gorge, you'll have a fine view of 'The Good Shepherd", a rock formation that bears a resemblance to Christ, the Good Shepherd with a crook beneath his arm and a sheep at his feet, keeping watch over the town.

Mossman is the hub of the Douglas Shire's sugar industry, and regarded as one of the prettiest towns in North Queensland.

Constructed of local stone, the Anglican Church on the northern approach to the town is something you can't and shouldn't miss. A beautiful, cathedral type canopy formed by immense raintrees, welcome you via this approach. The trees, over 80 years old, are just covered with ferns.

Just out of town, Rotary Park, with its beautiful shade trees, covered in ferns as well, and the Mossman River is a welcome sight, especially in summer.

Daintree

About 36 clicks north of Mossman is the town of Daintree. It's 11 kilometres past the turn off to the ferry service across the Daintree River.

Established in the late 1800's, Daintree was home to the timber cutters of the day. Today, you can see examples of the beautiful timbers at the wood turning mill in the town.

Although the rivers round here look inviting, the area is thriving with crocodiles ... so .... beware and take care.
